Your first visit

Hearing the word cancer is frightening. The first visit is about understanding what is going on and what the choices are. It usually takes 30 to 40 minutes.

  1. He listens first

Your story, your symptoms, what other doctors have said so far, and what worries you most. A family member is welcome in the room.

  2. He examines and reviews

A careful examination, then your reports, scans and biopsy slides, one by one. Nothing is repeated unless it is really needed.

  3. You leave with a plan

What the condition is, whether surgery will help, what else may be needed such as chemotherapy or radiation, and a clear next step with dates.

Every first visit starts with listening, and a family member is welcome in the room.

What to bring

Bring whatever you have. If something is missing, the doctor will tell you what is needed.

  • All reports and prescriptions, old and new
  • Scan films or CDs: CT, MRI, PET or ultrasound
  • Biopsy report, and the slides or paraffin block if you have them
  • The list of medicines you take every day
  • Your insurance card, if you have one

  • Gynaecological

  • Bone and soft tissue

Sarcomas of the limbs and trunk, with limb-saving surgery wherever possible.
